Hypoparathyroidism, also called underactive parathyroids, is an endocrine problem wherein too little parathyroid hormone is produced by your parathyroid glands. These small glands are attached to the back portion of your thyroid gland in your neck. The parathyroid hormone helps control your levels of phosphorus and calcium in your.

Hypoparathyroidism Symptoms

In hypoparathyroidism, not enough parathyroid hormone is produced causing:
  • Dry and coarse hair and brittle nails;
  • Tingling sensations in your lips, fingers and toes;
  • Muscle cramping;
  • Malformed teeth;
  • Headache; and
  • Convulsions.

Left untreated, hypoparathyroidism can lead to severe complications. The condition can be treated with supplements determined by your doctor.
